June 29, 2026

Product Comparison

600D vs 1000D rPET Oxford Fabric:
Which One Is Right for Your Bag?

Both are widely used. Both come in recycled polyester. But they serve different purposes — and choosing the wrong one costs you money or bag performance. Here's how to decide.

📖 6 min read 🏷 600D · 1000D · rPET Oxford · Denier Guide

When sourcing rPET Oxford fabric for bag production, 600D and 1000D are the two denier weights you will encounter most often. Both are proven in bag manufacturing at scale. Both can be PU or PVC coated. But they serve different purposes — and choosing incorrectly means paying for durability you don't need, or ending up with a product that fails under real-world use.

What Denier Actually Means

Denier (D) measures yarn thickness: specifically, the weight in grams of 9,000 meters of a single yarn thread. Higher denier = thicker yarn = heavier, more abrasion-resistant fabric.

  • 600D yarn → lighter, more flexible fabric with softer hand feel
  • 1000D yarn → heavier, stiffer fabric with significantly higher abrasion resistance

Both are Oxford weave constructions. The difference is entirely in the yarn thickness.

Specification Comparison

Specification 600D rPET Oxford 1000D rPET Oxford

Abrasion resistance Good — everyday use Excellent — heavy duty
Packability Folds reasonably flat Stiffer, less packable
Relative cost Lower Higher

Durability: Where 1000D Has the Clear Advantage

1000D has a genuine and measurable advantage in abrasion resistance. In real-world use: better resistance to surface scuffing, higher resistance to tearing under heavy loads, longer lifespan at high-wear contact points like bag bases.

Important: 600D provides adequate durability for the vast majority of everyday bag applications. The gap between 600D and 1000D only becomes significant in genuinely heavy-duty working environments — not in school bags, laptop bags, or everyday travel bags.

Application Guide

Choose 600D rPET Oxford for:

  • Everyday backpacks and school bags
  • Laptop bags and business bags
  • Travel bags and casual duffel bags
  • Fashion and lifestyle bags
  • Promotional merchandise bags
  • Any product where end-consumer weight matters

Choose 1000D rPET Oxford for:

  • Heavy-duty hiking or tactical backpacks
  • Tool bags and equipment cases
  • Luggage designed for rough handling
  • Outdoor equipment covers and storage bags
  • Products specifically marketed as "heavy duty"

Surface Texture Options in Each Denier

600D rPET Oxford Variants

600D Grid Weave (Guichi Pattern): Structured square grid woven into the surface. The most versatile 600D option — reliable across backpacks, school bags, and travel bags. 600D Cationic Two-Tone Plaid: Uses cationic dyeing to produce a vibrant dual-color plaid pattern. Full backpack-grade durability with strong visual differentiation.

1000D rPET Oxford Variants

1000D Grid Weave: Maximum denier with clean structured grid surface. Heavy-duty bags requiring durability without visual complexity. 1000D × 900D Dual-Denier Grid: Asymmetric grid construction at 320 g/m² — the heaviest fabric in our rPET range, for the most demanding applications.

Cost Consideration

1000D costs more than 600D, reflecting higher yarn weight per square meter. A practical rule: specify 1000D only when heavy-duty durability is a genuine functional requirement or key selling point. For the broad range of everyday bag applications, 600D delivers everything needed at lower cost.
